Technical director

Much of the work at Beaudry Interactive is project-based. We conceive, design and develop unique location-based experiences for theme parks and attractions, cultural and art centers, and educational institutions. We also collaborate with other companies while providing our technical expertise and know-how. Our creative and technical projects can be of varying scale and complexity, often with overlapping deadlines and running in parallel, with many projects requiring tight coordination with our clients, collaborators and contractors.

This is an opportunity to become part of that team. The Technical Director (TD) is responsible for specification, procurement, configuration, QA testing, management, on-site installation, and support of all audio-visual systems, computer networking, show control systems, and PC hardware for Beaudry Interactive's projects. The TD also supports the development and production teams during all phases of a project's lifecycle from early brainstorming and concept design to final on-site installation.  The TD also serves as the primary point of contact for the client during post-installation technology transfer and support.

The successful candidate will have a strong technical & operational background in themed entertainment, live theater and/or live events, as well as experience working on and designing infrastructure for both permanent and temporary installations. A strong passion for creating extraordinary interactive A/V works is a must.  This is a full-time, salaried position. Work will be conducted at Beaudry Interactive’s headquarters in North Hollywood or at client site. Must be willing to travel.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Project-based responsibilities:

  • Responsible for specification, procurement, configuration, QA testing, management, on-site installation, and support of all audio-visual systems, computer networking, show control systems, and PC hardware for Beaudry Interactive's projects;

  • Help liaise with b/i creative leads and clients to identify and define project requirements, scope and objectives;

  • Assist with developing project timelines, resources schedules, equipment requirements and information flow;

  • Develop plans, technical drawings, and diagrams that show equipment placement, electrical hookups and data connections (video/audio/network);

  • Oversee job-site installation and testing, and lead assembly of all required client support documentation;

  • Assist as required with any show control programming & integration;

  • Function as primary point of contact for the client during installation, post-installation support, and maintenance.

Company-wide responsibilities:

  • Oversee the design and assembly of all temporary A/V, hardware, and network set-ups at b/i during a project’s life cycle (e.g., R&D, development, production);

  • Maintain b/i’s existing facility A/V, show, and network infrastructure.

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Degree or advanced training in Technical Theater, A/V Engineering, or similar

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in themed entertainment, live events, or visual arts and multimedia environments (e.g., video, lighting, sound)

  • Proficient in A/V system design, including a broad range of A/V hardware, show control, and media playback solutions.

  • Understanding of various video transport technologies (HDMI, DVI, SDI, HDBaseT), signal types, fiber and ethernet media extenders and their uses and limitations.

  • Proficient in core IT support disciplines.

  • Proficient in computer networking

  • Ability and willingness to perform manual work, including running and dressing cable and building racks, installing equipment in racks and set pieces.

  • Ability to create system drawings as required with AutoCAD and/or Visio.

  • Ability to write clear and concise documentation and user guides.

  

ONE OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING WOULD BE AN ASSET

 

  • Familiarity with dedicated media servers (Stumpfl, 7th Sense, etc.).

  • Experience with lighting programing and DMX.

  • Skill with Adobe creative suite (Photoshop, Illustrator)

  • Skills with 3D modeling software (e.g., Sketchup)

  • Formal studies in interactive media, installation art, live theatre.

SPECIFIC WORK CONDITIONS 

  • Work will be both on-site at b/i’s location in North Hollywood and remote/telecommuting. Details to be discussed and will depend on project and company needs.

  • Reliable, high speed home Internet connection for telecommuting.

  • Some travel in USA or abroad as required by the project.
